Location: New Jersey | J. Fuego Delirium Brand: J. Fuego Vitola: Belicoso Length: 5.50 Ring Gauge: 52 Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro Binder: Corojo from Costa Rica Filler: Honduran and Nicaraguan Corojo (50/50 Blend)Country of Origin: Honduras Price Point: Aprox. $7.50 I had the opportunity to try this cigar the other day and wanted to share my experience. My drink of choice that evening was a Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat and thought it paired well with this cigar. OK, here goes: My friend Cigarsquale came over to herf with myself and the CNJHerfers, a bunch of cigar smokers from central New Jersey, and offered me a cigar that is not on the market just yet... I examined this expertly wrapped cigar and found no blemishes. A beautiful oily maduro wrapper that smelled earthy with a hint of coffee. My cutter of choice is the Palio which I used to remove the cap and then I pre-lit the cigar with my Lotus lighter. First thing I noticed was a bit of pepper which mellowed into a smooth earthy flavor. About an inch into the cigar I found that the pepper flavor returned. The Corojo filler and binder really amp the spice in this cigar, but the sweetness of the wrapper is a well balanced counterpoint to that peppery-ness. There were times when I caught a hint of coffee around the halfway point, but other than that the cigar was true to it's original starting flavor profile from about the 1 inch mark straight to the end. I would definitely recommend this cigar, as I will be buying a box of these the moment they come to market. Just to add that I enjoy smoking full bodied cigars and have been smoking cigars for 5 years now (probably longer but I hear that the memory is the first thing to go ... ),few cigars have impressed me on the first try as this one has. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. R |

Location: Right Here! | Nice review. I had some of the Fuegos when they first came out and had a chance to hang out with the man himself. He was doing an in-store to promote his then new line at the shop I used to hang out at. He came in a day early because he didnt have anything else going on. He came into the shop and just hung out with all us regulars watching TV, smoking, drinking and playing cards...he is a really cool guy...but I learned very quickly that evidently his split with Rocky Patel was not very nice...he didn't have anything nice to say about Rocky. The next day at the actual in-store he rolled a couple of primos for me...I still have one as a matter of fact.

I believe I was a recipient of a J Fuego cigar from you, Rudy... but IIRC I think it was a natural? Where as I was thankful for the "gifting" ;) , I really didn't get any enjoyment from this cigar. It had absolutely nothing to do with the cost or presentation, the cigar I had was flavorless and bitter in spots. I believe I may be in the minority here, though, as these are getting good reviews. Do domestic cigars go through a "sick period" like some cubans do? Maybe that was the issue, I really don't know. I usually don't relate cost with quality, especially when it comes to cigars. I've smoked many $2 cigars that I've liked over some $10 smokes. I am a big fan of the LHO's where many have trashed 'em. Cest la vie... SWYL...LWYS. |

Maybe that was the issue, I really don't know. ..... Oh man Ron... in my experience... i'd say DEFINATELY! One example... LGC's, to me, have always had an easily detectable, very pronounced sick period. They are really great fresh. Up to only a couple months. Maybe less. Nice and earthy and spicy at the same time. But then they turn sour and acrid with a major amonia component to their flavor. Set them down for a year and they are an altogether different cigar again. They certainly have a very different taste when they are aged than when they are fresh. But just as satisfying IMO. btw... nice review. nice pic. thanks for taking the time to post it. |

Location: New Jersey | ^ Thank you. I tried to review a cigar a looooong time ago when I first started smoking and pretty much screwed the whole thing up. So I desperately wanted to do a good one now that I'm a *cough* aficionado. I must say this is a pretty cool site. I appreciate having the feedback and hope to meet up with you in the future. R |

Absolutely they do...the tobacco leaves used in domestic brands are no different in their chemical makeup than cuban leaves...the "sick" period is just part of the fermentation of the leaves...the gasses inside the cigar get trapped within it and give it the ammonia (cat piss) smell and taste...it usually happens within three months or so. But most cigars you buy have already been aged at the factory so this is rarely an issue for the retail public. But, some manufacturers rush their product to market so you get the occassional "sick" batch. I have gotten a few bundles of Connies that were like this. But from my experience if you come across some that are in this stage, you will know it without doubt...I opened a cedar box I was storing some Connies in once and the smell almost knocked me over...I really thought my cat had gotten into the box and pissed

It's good to be back, although I will miss Copenhagen's beaches.

I can't say enough about the hospitality I experienced from the SonGoku boys.
